Nalepo Shanga Women Group
Nalepo Shanga Women group is in Longido, Tanzania (closer to the border of Kenya) aim is to produce high quality ethical jewelry.
The group is a project and was set up specifically for Pensar Africa in collaboration with Testigo Africa . Pensar Africa’s aim in this project is to create ethical and sustainable jobs and income opportunity for women in the area.
Beautiful hand beaded jewelry come from a little village called Longido, Northern Tanzania with Nalepo Shanga Women’s Group. Nalepo means ‘successful work’ in Maasai.
Namnyak Olengunin headed this project and chose members of the group based on their need and extreme poverty. They allocated the different pieces of jewelry to the women who are best at making that particular type of pieces. Profits equally between the members of the group.
